Most of us love a bargain, me included. And when I can add my own personal touch to it with an upcycle, I love it at least twice as much, if not more!
The downside of getting so much pleasure from a good deal is buying things you don’t really need and adding to the clutter under the label ‘things I want to do something with one day’. This used to me, boxes and bags of bits and bobs, for when I got time, which I never did. So, the clutter would hang around for years. In my recent de-cluttering, I ditched the lot and it feels brilliant – literally like a weight off my shoulders.
As I was browsing a vintage/antique shop recently, I saw two lamps I liked the look of (£10 for the pair). I loved the shape instantly but thought they’d be even better with an upcycle. A quick lick of paint, a new IKEA lamp shade (£3 each) and hey presto, two fresh new table lamps for £16. A bargain and with my own personal touch, even more pleasing. I did know I had a space for these though and they weren’t hanging around in boxes of clutter for years – out on display as soon as the paint had dried.
I’m so happy to be clutter-free these days and much happier finding a little bargain that I need, rather than keeping things ‘just-in-case, for when I get time’.
