‘All good things start with ‘C’, Candles, Coffee, Chocolate and more Candles!’
In my opinion, candles are one of the most inexpensive and under-rated pleasures of life. It might have something to do with being Danish and the concept of Hygge {hue-gah}, the Danish art of living well. When asked what Hygge means to them, an overwhelming 85% of Danes, mention candles. However, in recent years, the candle phenomenon seems to have spread to many other countries, especially here in the UK.
Many of us might have lots of candles, but I know people that are reluctant to light them, they just like to look at them or maybe only use them for special occasions or as part of a ritual, like a luxurious candlelit bath. Of course, I respect how people like to use their candles but for me, candles are like everyday necessities; warm radiators, illuminating light bulbs and nutritious eggs. I need to know I have them on tap and always use them a lot.
For six months of the year, I light a candle while I eat breakfast while for nine months of the year, a candle burns on my desk during the afternoons. And in the evening, all year round, candle-lighting is part of my evening routine, whether I’m on my own or in company. The gentle light they provide creates just the right ambience.
Candles are very atmospheric and can change the mood instantly, cost very little (unless it’s a designer fragrance edition) and are certainly on my essentials list.
