Although IKEA is Swedish and I’m Danish, I do feel very much at home there. I think it’s the tasty meatballs with cranberry sauce or it might be the abundance of candles!
Now that my house and cupboards are sorted, I’m constantly on guard to the temptation of bringing home more stuff! I will never, ever, go back to crammed, stuffed, overfilled anything. The benefits of an organised home and life are just too great to sacrifice.
So, at IKEA I need to be on high-alert should I fall for something that I love, but don’t need and will take up precious space.
A safe-zone is the beloved candle department. Candles are consumables on my essentials list, needed, wanted and much-appreciated. I stock up but don’t go mad. Just enough candles to last till the next IKEA trip, not enough for the rest of this year and the whole of the next!
Before my ‘once-and-for-all-tidy’ I’d lost touch with ‘how much is enough’ of things like toilet tissue, printer paper, candles, note books etc., when you have a normal sized-house. When I know I’ll eventually need more of something, it’s tempting to buy lots of it. However, there is this little nugget of truth – my house is my home, not a storage unit. It took me a while to figure that out but I’m so glad that I did.
I do still have to be on guard at IKEA though.
